• BECOME PART OF ARTEMISIA •
Artemisia produces plays that empower women. Each and every fall six emotional, relatable new plays are presented as staged readings from which our audience chooses our premiere productions. We are looking for plays that feature a leading female character actively engaged in the play’s action and catharsis, characterized by empowerment rather than victimization.
Artemisia accepts full-length plays from playwrights with whom we have an existing professional relationship and through literary agents submitted electronically as a PDF attachment (no other format will be accepted.) To foster and strengthen our relationships to local writers, Artemisia invites unrepresented writers living in the Chicago area to submit a professional resume, a one-page synopsis of the play, the first ten pages of the play and the play’s production history as a PDF attachment (no other format will be accepted.) Please allow 12 weeks for your submission to be processed. You will be contacted if Artemisia wishes to read the full play.
No other unsolicited plays or submissions will be accepted. All other queries and/or properties received that do not meet the above criteria will not be considered and will be deleted.
Submit electronically to firstname.lastname@example.org with Fall Festival Submission in the subject line.
Submissions are accepted between July 1st and December 15th each year. Plays received outside of that time frame will be deleted and will not be considered.
DISCLOSURE: In the event that plays that are submitted present a potential conflict of interest for the Executive Artistic Director, she will recuse herself from the play vetting and selection process. Artemisia’s Literary Manager, a contracted artist (currently Lindsay Tornquist) will vet the plays and present those selected to Artemisia’s Board of Directors for final approval.
