"It's not often a play allows the artists an incredible creative challenge while at the same time tackling such an important social issue. Women who grapple with mental illness need a society that supports their healing and empowers them to seek the help they need. VISITING pries the conversation wide open and is a great opportunity to build compassion and support in our community."

"I'm excited to be part of a production that helps further the conversation about mental illness. We must engage with this subject because it affects all of us. I want to be part of a stigma-free society, so we have to talk about it... and I feel so fortunate to be able to tell this story surrounded by all of these incredible women. Come see this play and help us erase the stigma."

Visiting- Final Two Weeks

April 27, 2017, 7:30pm

Artemisia, A Chicago Theatre

The undisputed audience favorite from Artemisia Fall Festival 2015, VISITING is an unflinching exploration of the impact of bipolar disorder on four generations of women and the life-affirming discoveries a young woman makes about herself and her future. Written by Ed Proudfoot and directed by Carrie Lee Patterson, VISITING features the talents of Maggie Cain, Millie Hurley, Julie Proudfoot, Carin Silkaitis and Sarah Wisterman. VISITING is in its final two weeks! There will be performances April 27-30 and May 4-7. Showtimes are Thursdays – Saturdays at 7:30 pm, Sunday at 6:00 p.m., with an additional matinee on Saturdays at 2:00 pm. Tickets are available at artemisiatheatre.org or by calling 312-725-3780. Group and VIP Passes are also available. Artemisia performs at The Edge Theater, located at 5451 N. Broadway. “Visiting is one of the Best Plays in Chicago."-Picture this Post “Visiting is a play about mental illness that manages to avoid being melodramatic or exploitative. Its exploration of the effects of bipolar disorder on the Smith women is layered and complex, and while it does not sugarcoat any of the pain the disorder causes, it nevertheless ends on a hopeful note.” - Chicago Splash Magazine “It’s the playwright’s unflinching look at bipolar disorder, all its symptoms and treatments, and how it affects everyone around, that makes this powerful piece a startling, striking evening of theatre. -Recommended by Chicago Theatre Review

"My Aunt suffered with mental illness and I don't think she was ever properly diagnosed before she decided to take her life. So we don't know if she lived with severe depression or bipolar disorder. My Brother lived with Paranoid Schizophrenia before his death at 61. We all lived the disease with him."
