Crothers wrote plays that "reflected the position of women in American society" - she also founded the Stage Women's Relief Fund during the first World War. What's in a Name? Do you know the story of Artemisia's namesake? Artemisia Gentileschi was a Baroque artist whose paintings depicted violence with fierce honesty and elegance, often focusing on women and their struggles. For centuries after her death, her art was attributed to men. Feminist curators in the late 1970’s rediscovered Artemisia, who is now considered the greatest female painter prior to the modern period. We follow in Artemisia's footsteps, striving to tell stories that celebrate the true equality of all women. #HerStory #EmpowerWomen
